[Quickie] Handa-Kun

== Handa-kun ==

Ridiculous comedy
Misunderstandings galore
A better Sakamoto Desu Ga?

Don’t expect:
Anything to make any sense
Heartfelt slice-of-life like Handa-kun‘s pre-sequel, Barakamon

I was recommended Handa-kun as another comedy similar to Sakamoto Desu Ga? but done better. Both follow the trope of a singular well-liked main character within a high school setting. However, Handa-kun differs itself from Sakamoto Desu Ga? in that the main character, Handa, is not actually that competent. All of his positive achievements are due to misunderstandings by his peers. As these misunderstandings spiral out of control, other people come to revere Handa while Handa himself becomes more and more convinced other hate him.

The level of misunderstanding becomes cult-like at a certain point and it was at this point I got a little uncomfortable with the series. However, Handa-kun was able to bring it around and actually develop character relationships, albeit not significantly, giving the sentence that is this 12 episode series a nice punctuation. The subtle nods to Handa’s original series, Barakamon, where we see him as an adult is fun since Barakamon is one of my favorite series to date.

The two emotions of this show: delight and utter disgust

Overall: 7/10 (Never boring but overbearing at times)

[Quickie] Mob Psycho 100

== Mob Psycho 100 ==

OP Main character.
Well-rounded supporting cast.
Reigen the god.
High octane action scenes with superb animation.
Interesting interpersonal relationships.
Light-hearted charm

Don’t expect:
Beautiful art style (due to cartoony visuals).
Over-the-top comedy as ridiculous as One Punch Man.
Actually, just don’t expect everything to be like One Punch Man.

[Quickie] Juuou Mujin no Fafnir

== Juuou Mujin no Fafnir ==

Fantasy harem genre.
Cute girls doing cute things.

Kirito and Silica in this show for some reason.

Don’t expect:
Good 3D modeling.
That much of actually good action.
No seriously, you can still see the meshes on the monsters.

[Quickie] Sakamoto Desu Ga?

==Sakamoto Desu Ga? ==

Hilarious jokes the first time around.
Fantastically fabulous main character.
A touch of drama as side characters struggle on dealing with such a “perfect” person.

Don’t expect:
Interesting side characters.
A slice of life transition like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun.
The same jokes to be funny the fifth time around.

[Quickie] Log Horizon 2nd Season

== Log Horizon 2nd Season ==

Action/adventure fantasy in a videogame setting
The same old lovable characters from Log Horizon 1st Season
New interesting characters to join the cast
Some previous central characters to take a backseat this time

Don’t expect:
As much politics as 1st Season
A complete seemless package like 1st Season

[Quickie] Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka

== Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka  (DanMachi) ==

The title to be somewhat misleading. Not that much harem here.
Do-goodie main protagonist.
Decent action scenes.
Large sense of scale.
Videogame-like elements in a fantasy world.
Some blue ribbon for some reason or another idk.

Don’t expect:
A harem anime. Actually not that many female romance characters? Bell’s just really awk.
Something too original or innovative from the usual fantasy genre.
Systematic problem-solving. Everything is solved by deux ex machina.

[Update] Shadowverse Expansion, Seiyuu Spotlight, and Houseki Pro

Greetings! Two months have passed since the new start of the blog, so I thought I would give an update to everyone on how things have been, where the blog is going, and other miscellaneous things.

= Shadowverse = top_banner_en02-1

So most of the traffic on this blog is with my Shadowverse posts, which are published bi-weekly on Fridays. With the new expansion coming out next week, I decided to hold off on making a post this time around. The idea is to make a pack opening video for the blog next week and start brewing fun and/or competitive decks with the new cards. If you don’t know what Shadowverse is, check out my introductory post here. (tldr: online anime ccg).

= Anime =

Honestly, I think “Quickies” are the best idea I’ve had in a long time. I’ve been able to keep consistently posting one every week since the reboot. That being said, they are slightly underwhelming opposed to the longer reviews of the past. However, most reviews of any kind boil down to “oh this was a good show” or “don’t watch Hundred,” which doesn’t really allow for much innovation.

Though I work full-time and don’t have that much free time, I may try to introduce a new type of article. My favorite part of watching new anime is listening to the different talented seiyuu, or voice actors; I love trying to figure out what voices I have heard from previous shows. Seiyuu Spotlight would aim to show off different voice actors and actresses I personally think are amazing, describe their vocal styels, and try to share their best works. It might be a little bit before my little idea becomes a reality, but keep an eye out for it!

That being said, I would love to discuss different series with the like… 4 people that read my anime reviews! Basically I’m looking for more interaction between myself and you guys. If anyone has ideas, let me know!

So while this blog is a solo project by yours truly, Wakai, I do actually have other side projects with other people. One such group is Houseki Pro, which is a vocal cover group of songs from the show Steven Universe. If you are a fan of the show, go check out our Youtube channel here. The group is full of talented individuals with a true passion for singing. And then there’s me. I don’t have any of that.
