[Quickie] Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

== Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry ==

Fantasy high school romance.
Like an actual romance between two people.
Well animated and choreographed sword action.
OP MC, but more likeable than most.
An awesome transgender character (uncommon in Anime).
Tournament style fights.

Don’t expect:
A harem anime.
Complex characters.
Actually compelling antagonists.

The one thing that separates Rakudashi Kishi no Cavalry, or Chivalry of a Failed Knight, from other anime of the same genre is its pizazz. The art is beautiful, the animation is excellent, and the soundwork is masterful. Even to this day, its opening is one of my favorite songs to enjoy. That being said, while the show’s execution is top-notch, it’s premise is commonplace: high schoolers with magic powers fighting each other for reasons.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Rakudashi Kishi no Cavalry is the best of this genre. It’s been a while since I’ve seen an MC that’s not cocky/arrogant or a bumbling fool. The show does a good job of “showing” not “telling.” Kurogane’s character actually earns my respect within the show with his actions.

People go into this show, myself included, expecting the typical action harem, but it does mature into a nice romance between the two main characters quickly enough. The show does have a lot of fan service though, so keep that in mind. If you’re not sure if things are becoming steamy but have a hunch, it’s definitely becoming steamy.

Not a show I would recommend as a “must watch” but I certainly liked it. A good filler series. It’s helluva lot better than Hundred though, that’s for sure.

chivalry end

+ Opening’s hella nice.
+ High schoolers fighting with swords
+ A lot more personality in this show’s style than other fantasy school series.
+ Lewd >///////<
+ Cute and reasonable romance between two lovers. None of the dumb harem nonsense.
– Lewd o///////o
– Predictable

Overall: 7/10 (Above average)
