==Sakamoto Desu Ga? ==
Hilarious jokes the first time around.
Fantastically fabulous main character.
A touch of drama as side characters struggle on dealing with such a “perfect” person.
Interesting side characters.
A slice of life transition like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun.
The same jokes to be funny the fifth time around.
Sakamoto Desu Ga? is about the most perfect person in the world, Sakamoto. Everything he does is stylish, cool, and perfect. Even put into the worst situations, Sakamoto is able to turn any scenario into something that inevitably makes him look awesome.
Unfortuately, the predictability of Sakamoto’s success makes his unpredicable comedy pretty boring. The ridiculous jokes are hilarious the first time around, but keeping Sakamoto constrained in such a small environment as a school classroom really limits the different responses he can have. Almost every problem he faces stems from his high school life, so the jokes get repetitve and tedious. It isn’t until the last couple episodes when Sakamoto’s antics leave the classroom that the show gets good again. The middle episodes until then are pretty boring.
The series feels like a sitcom with each episode having multiple sub-episodes, but the lack of continuity over time makes it hard to get invested in the show; even something as simple as an episodic trip with Sakamoto doing Sakamoto things would have been interesting to watch.
Watch the beginning couple of episodes but skip forward or drop the show if it lulls down too much for you. The opening is badass though.
|+ Fabulous main character is fabulous. Jojo poses for days.
+ Hilarious punchlines and ridiculous moments.
|– Repetitive jokes feel dull after a while in the middle. Gets better at the end.
– Sakamoto is difficult to relate to at first, but later gets more fleshed out.
– Biggest problem is they reuse the same joke over and over again.
Overall: 6.5/10 (Sakamoto is perfect but the other stuff can be better)
